21.3.01: We have fixed a version problem with MAS3507D. As a result of a modification of the Software contained in the Atmel-Processor the Version -F10, -G10 and -G12 of MAS3507D will work without difference. PC-Software and Hardware of the player remain unchanged. The modified Sourcecode named MPR14.ASM (replaces MPR12.ASM of the original version) and the compiled Hexfile MPR14.HEX are available for free download without any kind of warranty.

Note: the connector S3 is NOT intended to connect the Line-output of a CD-Rom-drive directly. Doing so will cause no sound to appear at the outputs unless BOTH the CD-Rom-drive and the Player play music. In this case a mix will appear. A switch (manual or a relay) is required.

19.7.99: for correct support of 20-digit-per-line LCD-modules the following changes in the source code available at www.heise.de is necessary: File display.c line 175: change the number 16 to 20 and in line 178 the number 80 to 84. That´s all.

19.7.99: hint for mounting resistor-networks N1,N2,N3: Pin1 of the parts is marked with a dot. This pins goes into the square soldering pad of the PCB.

12.7.99: about problems with infrared remote control receivers: the software burned into the Atmel-controller recognizes RC5-codes only. All Philips-compatible remote controllers will work, other formats like Sony or Panasonic are not supported.

25.6.99: some customers report problems with IR-receivers TSOP1736 (=SFH506-36). Some bugs have accumulated in the power-supply of this part found on Pin 13 of connector S9. If the TSOP1736 shows no or only a very small output signal please check: - R9 must be a 15 Ohm-Resistor (colour coding Brown-Green-Black-Gold...). This resistor is NOT responsible for the backlight illumination of LCD-Panel. - Tatalum capacitor C14 is shown ambigious in various versions of assembly drawings. Correct position is: Plus-contact must be mounted towards S8. If R9 is too big or C14 wrong mounted the supply voltage for TSOP1736 will be too low causing incorrect function of this part.

20.6.99: some more FAQs:

The coil 100uH (82uH printed onto the PCB is wrong) resembles a regular resistor with a slightly thicker body and is marked with colour rings also.

The Plus-contact of tantalum-capacitors is marked by a very small Plus-sign.

The 4x20-LCD-Module with backlight LED supplied by us (marked "2024") has the minus-contact of backlight on Pin 15, Plus on Pin 16. This is reverse to the pinning on the MP3-PCB. This module has a builtin resistor to allow direct connection to +5V. If it is used either R6 on the MP3-Player-PCB has to be replaced by a piece of wire or R7 on the back side of the module has to be shortened. Otherwise the backlight will be too dim.

Capacitors 680pF are marked "n68". The 1nF-capacitors are marked "102".

28.5.99: Both circuit drawing and assembly drawing show D1 (Zenerdiode 1.4V) mounted like a regular Zenerdiode. As the Zener-effect occurs at voltages above 2V, this is not really a Zenerdiode. Instead it is a regular rectifier with an increased forward voltage and must be mounted REVERSE to the assembly drawing. A datasheet of the part can be found at www.philips.com, look for BZV86.

28.5.99: A colleague has successfully assembled a player on a selfmade PCB. He found that the LED D3 is shown reversed on the assembly plan.

LCD-modules with 4 rows of characters do NOT fit into the proposed housing EM34GA - 3mm are missing. We suggest to build a separate operating unit containing the LCD and the switches - or use a bigger housing. Unfortunately we did not find a box bigger than EM34GA matching the assembly holes and connector positions.

To all shipments containing a 20-columns-LCD-module we add a disk containing a patched version of the DOS-Software for correct support of such displays. The startup-logo of the player is contained in the Atmel-software and will therefore be scrambled.

The IR-receiver SFH506(-36) mentioned by C´T is discontinued by Siemens and no longer available. We can offer the same part made by Temic named TSOP1736 at € 1,99
